What does maxManaBurn in user_prefs do?

Does it do what it says?

Add preference maxManaBurn (default 1000). That is added to adventure count to give max number of turns a buff is taken to via burning.

it doesn't seem to be working for me, but I don't know why
is adventure count the number of turns spent in the current ascension? that would make it hard to test :/
